Several times a year I get an e-mail from a musician with a message similar to:
When I was recording this new [song/EP/album], I was thinking if no one else listens to this, I know Lazlo will.
It is really touching, but it is also kind of depressing.
For over 23 years I have been doing BlowUpRadio.com to try to get people excited about the local music scene in New Jersey. Part of the reason I started the station was my friends at the time did not want to go to local music shows to see artists they did not know, play songs they've never heard before. So I thought, hey I can make a station, and my friends can tune in and hear all of these amazing artists, and then they will want to go see them live.
My friends at the time didn't listen to the station, and over the years as our lives went in different directions, I have lost touch with those people.
But I know people listen to BlowUpRadio.com, and I occasionally get e-mails telling me how much people enjoyed hearing specific artists on BlowUpRadio.com, which is awesome!
But even more awesome would be if you let those artists know how much you enjoyed hearing their music, and, as I say on the new music shows every time, if you purchased these artists' music too.
BlowUpRadio.com pays out royalties via Live365 (who pays SESAC, etc), but artists make more money from sales then they do from streaming royalties (you would literally have to stream the song thousands of times for the artist to hopefully see the $10 you paid for an album).
So please, if you like the artists we are playing on BlowUpRadio.com, let them know, both literally (e-mail, social media post), and by purchasing their music so they can continue to make the music you are enjoying.
