Lazlo's Corner

Taking a break this week from talking about our upcoming Banding Together benefits for Spondylitis Association Of America, because there is another important cause I need to talk about.

If you've been following for a while (we hope you have been), you have probably heard the name Catherine Wacha. She is an amazing singer-songwriter who we've been playing on our station for over a decade. Whenever we've done Banding Together, Rock Against Hate, or any other benefit, she's been there... even though I usually joke with her about her long in the works debut album... ten years in the making, it finally came out last year (, and is a wonderful album.

I have also been happy to help with her annual Rock The Lup benefits for the Lupus Research Alliance (, a cause very near and dear to Catherine, as she was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in 2001 when she was only 21-years-old.

As you may have guessed after reading the above, Catherine's health is getting worse. She is in end-stage renal failure. Most of her kidney function had been lost. Catherine’s illness affects her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.

Of course, transplants are expensive, even with insurance, and then there are a myriad of other expenses that are likely to be incurred related to the transplant. All of this can put extra stress on someone at a time when stress can only make things worse.

So Catherine has set up a donation page on the National Foundation for Transplants site, where you can make a tax deductible donation to help:

Please donate if you can. It would mean a lot to me, and even more to Catherine.
