Lazlo's Corner

Someone asked me the other day whether they should keep making the sound they are doing or try something different. I was rather surprised by the question.

After gathering my thoughts I said something to the effect of:

You should make music that you feel like making. If that's continuing with your already established sound, that's fine, but if a different style is calling to you, don't feel beholden to your past work, or what you think your fans want to hear. Make music you are passionate about, and it is more likely to be rewarding to you than trying to do what you think will keep your fans happy, or get you radio play.

Now, you may lose some of your fans in the process, but you may also gain more new fans.

It's such a cliche, but it is true, in all things, be true to yourself.

The person said thanks. Maybe they will take my advice, maybe not, but I'm glad I said what I did and that is why I am reiterating here.
