Hey Everyone,
The next BlowUpRadio.com Free Concert @ Buddie’s Tavern: Saturday June 23rd – Zigman Bird, John Rango & Friends, Mike Kovacs Buddie's Tavern is located at 277 Johnsons Lane, Parlin (Sayreville), NJ ~~~ Lazlo’s Corner I love the natural conversation writing style of MIKE DOUGHTY in his new memoir, THE BOOK OF DRUGS. While the book is at times funny, this book is really a compelling read less about typical rock star stories, and more about the plethora of issues in his life, issues that these days he is more self aware of and presumably better at dealing with. These issues include in great detail his drug & alcohol (he has been clean and sober for some years now), and how his former bandmates in Soul Coughing took advantage of him, and made him insecure…basically a band version of an abusive relationship, that he stayed in many years longer than he should have. Why is it that creativity and damaged individuals seem to go hand in hand? www.mikedoughty.com Conversely, there are people who truly seem happy in life, who write songs about damaged individuals. One such master of that is KEITH MONACCHIO, and his new EP, “TIPS, DRINKS & GAS MONEY EP”, are four brilliant, but melancholy, songs. Keith has great control of his voice and knows when the song needs to sing quietly and when to howl the lyrics, adding emotional resonance. The addition of clarinet also helps to add to the moodiness of the music. http://keithmonacchio.bandcamp.com Most jazz covers of rock songs tend to go to the lounge lizard, kitschy extreme. But JOHN PIZZARELLI knows better than that. He is a true musician/vocalist, and as such, he can take songs from the likes of The Beatles (“I feel fine“), Elvis Costello (“Alison“), Neil Young (“harvest moon“), The Allman Brothers Band (“in memory of elizabeth reed“), and even Billy Joel (“Rosalinda’s eyes”), and turn them into inspired interpretations on his new album, “DOUBLE STANDARDS”. www.johnpizzarelli.com And I leave you with a video tribute to the great band Sparklehorse, courtesy of Graham Colton and Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne's cover of "Don't Take My Sunshine" http://blowupradio.tripod.com/videos/sparkle.html ~~~ This week on Lazlo's Den Presents New Music we have new music from: ARTIST - ALBUM ------------------------- Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra - do it with a rockstar The Porchistas - live @ Buddie’s Tavern Jon Lindsay - summer wilderness program David Gray - Jim Bean’s live music series Keith Monacchio - tips, drinks & gas money ep The Afghan Whigs - see and don’t see Avalanche City - love love love Nikki Sue & The Bad News - lower places Erin McCarley - elevator Guided By Voices - class clown spots a UFO Bob Mould - Live at Bottom of The Hill Prof - king gampo Full playlist with links to all the bands is at www.LazlosDen.com.
