Newsletter 12-08-08

Programming Notes:

Wednesday on Lazlo’s Den (8pm ET), I’ll be airing an interview with Patti Rothberg. You may remember Patti from her hit album from the 90‘s, “between the 1 & 9” and hit singles, “inside”, and “treat me like dirt”. We’ll be talking about that, her new CD, “ double standards”, and all sorts of random stuff. We recorded the interview last week when I was fighting a sinus infection, and here is what Patti Rothberg has written about the interview on her blog (www.myspace.com/pattirothberg):
“I had such a good time with this interview! He was all hopped up on cold meds, and I had no excuse other than a drug free albeit post LSD mind.”

Go now to BlowUpRadio.com & vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to our poll question, “Should BlowUpRadio.com play bands that aren’t from NJ?”

~~~
Hey Everyone,
So, did I drop a bomb on everyone when I posted a new poll question on BlowUpRadio.com?
Thank you to those who have taken the time to click on the poll, and thank you even more to those of you who took the time to e-mail me personally with your thoughts both positive and negative on the poll question.
Several people asked me questions relating to my question about playing bands from outside of NJ on BlowUpRadio.com. Here are re-wordings of those questions, and my answers.
Why did you ask?
Because I would never make a massive change like that to BlowUpRadio.com without discussing it with the community that helps to make BlowUpRadio.com what it is. While I own, operate and run BlowUpRadio.com, you’ll note that often in this newsletter I saw “we” instead of “I”. That’s because without all of you, BlowUpRadio.com wouldn’t be what it is. 8 years ago it began of humble beginnings, but it’s grown in unimaginable ways thanks to all of you, the community.
Why now? Why add music from outside of NJ?
While over the last 8 years hits to the website have increased, the amount of people who actually listen to the webcast has decreased. I’m not sure why this is, and maybe another question I should ask (and feel free to e-mail me your answers) is why aren’t people listening to BlowUpRadio.com’s webcast? What is missing from the webcast…or what is turning you off from listening?
But with listenership down, I thought I’d throw the question out there of playing bands from outside of NJ, giving other indie bands from outside of NJ a chance to be heard side by side NJ bands, and that that might increase listenership and thereby more people hearing the great NJ bands I play.
As an aside, since some have wondered, I have no plans to play the same music you can hear on mainstream radio.
Ultimately I want to do what is best for the community and the scene, and that is why I put the poll question out there.
So please answer the poll question, and or e-mail me your thoughts. I would love to hear from all of you about the future of BlowUpRadio.com’s webcast.
Concert Picks of the Week
~
Lazlo (BlowUpRadio.com)
A few years back there used to be great Lump N Loaf Records shows st the Broadway Central Cafe, and other venues. This Friday will be a sort of Lump N Loaf night with 3 great bands that used to be part of those shows. Kiskos Tavern is the place to be as Little Dipper, Zigman Bird, and Down With The Wizard will supply some grteat live rock.
~
Gary Wien (Asbury Music)
Two picks for the week this time around - both take place at the Saint in Asbury Park. First takes place on Wednesday when Rick Barry's "Night in Progress" returns with a lineup that included Frank Bressi (Chilling Details), Alex Brumel, Last Perfect Thing, Rick Barry, and Lisa Bianco. And then on Sunday there's the Dolla Jill "Share the Wealth" Benefit Show with the Juggling Suns, Karmic Juggernaut, and The Kathouse Rhythms.
And now it’s time for this week’s Pissed Off:
Go ahead laugh, this week I am pissed off at CBS.
Why?
Because every Sunday night during football season they have a game that they claim will be over by 7pm, when 60 Minutes is scheduled to start, I turn on CBS and there’s always somewhere between 3 and 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Now anyone who has ever watched an NFL game knows that whatever time is on the clock takes at least 3 times that to play. So every week I have to keep flipping back to CBS every few minutes to see if the game is over, because I do not want to miss the beginning of 60 Minutes.
This has been going on for years.
You would think at some point they would do what Fox does, and plan to have an NFL post game show for a half hour and start 60 Minutes at 7:30pm (which the game is usually, but not always, over by). Instead I have to go through the nuisance of flipping back and forth to see when the game is over, be it 7:07pm, 7:23pm, or in extreme cases 8pm (which by then becomes an extreme conflict with my Simpsons obsession).
So if anyone from CBS is reading this, do me a solid and set an exact start time for 60 Minutes that you can actually keep to during football season.
That's all for this week folks.
Peace,
Lazlo
