Mike June & The Dirty Doves - "lovesick"

LOVESICK, the second full-length record from Mike June & The Dirty Doves, will be released on Tuesday March 27th, 2007 by June's own Junedog Records label. 3 years in the making, LOVESICK is the proper follow-up to 2002's critically acclaimed CROOKED. It features 11 songs that explore a relationship that falls apart, rekindles and ultimately crashes and burns. With June's signature vocals leading the way, the Dirty Doves (Jay Forsythe, Clint Morris, Joe Vernazza, Ed Fritz and Rich DeCicco) move from Motown inspired indie rock (Fighting The War) to Dylan-esque country ( The Ballad of the Ballad {of John and Yoko}) to down and dirty rock that recalls The Faces (Honkey Tonk Angels #2) with thier signature grace and grit. Produced by June and guitarist Jay Forsythe, LOVESICK was recorded and mixed using old-fashioned analog equipment and instruments to give it a warm, vintage feel. So put the headphones on and take a once in a lifetime emotional and musical journey with Mike June & The Dirty Doves.

LOCAL MUSIC NEWS
Days Awake Farewell

On April 7, after a great 3 ½ year run, the band you know as Days Awake will play its last show at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. We've had a great time, and the best thing about it was that we got to meet so many people, and make so many friends who will be our friends forever.

We still love each other, and always will. It's just that sometimes people want to go in different directions and we certainly respect that. So we've decided to make the April 7 th show a celebration of our time together, and a validation of our friendship. We've invited a whole bunch of friends to come down to play with us, including some surprise guests. We are going to send this band out in style, and we hope that everyone can be there to celebrate with us. Please check out our website ( www.daysawake.com) or MySpace page (www.myspace.com/daysawakenj) for all the details.

The good news is that Eric, Sarah, and Jeremy are going to continue playing together with Rick Barry. The new band is called Paperback Radio, and will also include Justin Bornemann on bass. We're really excited about the band, which will debut at this year's WAVE Gathering in Asbury Park in May. So stay tuned for news about what's coming up.

Finally, we want to thank everyone for your love and support over the years. We clearly could not have achieved what we did without you, and we hope that you'll continue to support us in our future endeavors. We also want to thank our crew and management, for keeping things up and running, and being our rock when times were tough. We will never forget our time together.

Love,
Dom, Eric, Jay, Jeremy, Sarah

Message From Lazlo

Hi Everyone,

Two things to talk about this week:

First off, you probably noticed that the newsletter has taken on a new look, as has the main page of BlowUpRadio.com. It's still a work in progress, as BlowUpRadio.com is constantly trying to find new ways to bring local music, and with Lazlo's Den all good music, to a larger audience.

As always, your thoughts and opinions are welcome: e-mail me

Second, believe it or not, Folk You! is celebrating it's 4th anniversary this Wednesday. It was 4 years ago this month that I booked the first Folk You! show at Rodeo Ristra (R.I.P.), and Jim Testa came up with the name for the monthly acoustic rock show (Folk You!). This Wednesday we celebrate with a show at The Goldhawk in Hoboken, with one of the original performers (Jim), and 2 performers new to the Folk You! camp.

Lisa M. Bello

Lisa M. Bello has always loved music. She discovered her love of rock music upon first hearing Pearl Jam, Mazzy Star, and Smashing Pumpkins in 1994.Having written poetry and prose from a very young age, she began to construct poetry in song form. She searched out other like minded souls and began to get interested in forming a musical project.

During this time Lisa discovered the band Hole and a musician named Juliana Hatfield. These two women inspired Lisa to pick up a guitar and start playing. Soon she was constructing her own songs and started to persue a band of her own.

The first of her music projects was fronting a band called Table 57. This band was Lisa's brain child for five years. Through its many lineup changes Table 57 remained a growing, well-liked, and enriching experience before Lisa decided to disband it in 2001.

After the disbandment of Table 57, Lisa began to think about going solo and proceeded to record an ill-fated album. Ill-fated because the computer it was recorded on was infiltrated and corrupted by a virus and most songs were completely lost. Although that record went by the wasteside, the songs did not.

Lisa kept most of these songs on the back burner while she co-founded a band called Mercury to Hell. In this band, there were several songwriters and Lisa focused more on her guitar playing. Sadly, Mercury to Hell ended because of irreconcilable differences.

A short lived band called the Black Clouds developed from the ashes of Mercury to Hell but that also ended after about a year because of internal struggles.

Wasting little time, Lisa decided the time was right to go solo. She asked some of her friends, including some ex-band members to help her record her first solo album. Happily, they obliged. The album called Me and My Heart on My Sleeve was recorded January 2006 to June 2006 taking most of May off. Lisa M. Bello played all guitars and sang on all songs, played the majority of the bass, and the aforementioned friends shared the drumming duties.

Me and My Heart on My Sleeve wass independently released on September 26th, 2006

Jim Testa

For over 20 years, Jim Testa listened to other people's music and told you what he thought. Now it's your turn. The editor/publisher of JERSEY BEAT, one of the oldest and most well-respected music fanzines in America, has dusted off his guitar and returned to the stage with a second collection of his quirky, catchy, irreverent, witty, and sometimes sentimental pop tunes. "There Goes The Neighborhood" includes runaway hits like "Sally's Got A New Tattoo," about a grrl who gets a little too carried away at the tattoo & piercings parlor, and "Punk Rock Is Not Day Care," a savage indictment of the callow 'tweens turning Jim's precious punk scene into an episode of Lizzie McGuire. Jim appears as a solo singer/songwriter, with his friend John Raido on harmonica, and with the band Eisenhower at area venues throughout NYC and NJ. But you can almost catch him on the 4th Saturday of any month at the Charleston Bar & Grill in Williamsburg. The Village Voice says "quirky and catchy and a lot of fun." The Rev. Keith Gordon wrote that Jim's two EP's are "consistently charming, witty and fun to listen to." Greg Matherly of ARC magazine called it "straight up acoustic punk." But when Jim shows up with his guitar to play for you, you'll say, "There goes the neighborhood!"

Troy Wise

My name is Troy and I am a singer songer writer. After being inspired by my friends to play music, I went to Sam Ash with my friend Melvin to purchase my first guitar on 12/30/99, and a month later, I began taking guitar lessons. The lesson were long and hard, but by the good graces of the lord , I survived and became a guitar player. Years later, I decided to take my guitar playing experience to the next level, I wanted to become a singer songer writer, so on 11/05, I started performing at venues who have open mics. The first times were the worst, but I slowly improved and I love performing for audiences now. I love sharing my original songs and playing covers. Hopefully, I will have numerous gigs lined up, and I hope all who are interested will be in attendance. Please feel free to follow me throughout my singer song writing adventures.
