What is it with winter that seems to jostle the creative mind into action? Is it the cold weather? The snow? Large quantities of alcohol consumed in a short period of time?
Whatever the answer is, it seems like a lot of things that are helping the New Jersey music scene are celebrating anniversaries. Last month was blowupradio.com's, and this week marks two more local scenesters anniversaries.
On Friday, Artist Amplification celebrates it's one year anniversary at Maxwell's (see concert calendar below for performance listing). Over the last year Artist Amplification has put out 5 compilation CD's containing local artists, as well as putting on countless shows to promote these bands. Local indie icon, Andy Gesner, along with Eileen, Lisa and Matt have done so much to promote the NJ music scene over the last year that I could not even fit it all right here in this short message. Suffice it to say, the local music scene is a much better place for having Artist Amplification.
This weekend also marks the second anniversary of World Beyond Network, a concert promotion company started by another man with a long history of involvement in the local scene, "Shore Gone Wild" author, Chris "Lone Paranoid" Barry, along with the Marbels and Dead Pony Cats' Mike Grau. Well known for putting on weekly shows at Broadway Central Cafe, they have also booked shows at other area venues. I owe them a big debt of gratitude, as my recent Anniversary Bash could not have happened without them.
World Beyond Network is going all out, having a 2 day bash at Broadway Central Cafe. The Friday night show being all acoustic, and Saturday being the rock and roll extravaganza (again see the concert calendar below for the line-ups).
Of course, while I am mentioning anniversaries, I'd be remiss without mentioning that my parents also celebrate an anniversary this week. Without them deciding to have a child (at least they tell me it was planned ;), someone else would have had to come up with the idea of a 24/7 internet station dedicated to NJ music.
On another quick note, it seems like the fears of the Stone Pony being moved from it's historic location, may not happen. Check out the story from the Asbury Park Press, by clicking here. Of course it's not set in stone yet, so please sign the petition at www.savethestonepony.com.
