What a week it's been. The weather has been beautiful (yet the influx of pollen has been killing my allergies), and the music keeps getting better. Although, for some strange reason the crowds are not getting larger. Remember, if you don't support live local music, there won't be any local music scene left. Go out and see a band, any band, because NJ has lots of good ones to choose from.
For instance, this weekend I saw some great bands. Friday I went down to Hooligans and saw a magnificaent performance by Where's Mary. Thier self-titled CD is a great pop rock album, but the album did not prepare me for the amazing live performance I saw. Go see them at any of their several upcoming shows and see what I mean. Upcoming gigs for all NJ bands can always be found on ourConcert Listings Page.
Saturday I saw another satanic surf rock orgy courtesy of the Brimstones. These guys are talented musicians, and just plain insane. Seeing a Brimstones show, you never exactly know what is going to happen, but you are guaranteed to have a good time. Opening for them was Vigilante Cowboys, whose rockabilly meets pop rock sound got the Broadway Central Cafe patrons tapping their feet to the beat. For those who stuck around after the Brimstones set, got a special treat courtesy of Brooklyn's (yeah I know that's not in NJ, but they are still worth mentioning) own, Swampbelly, whose country folk rock had everyone singing and clapping along. Special thanks to Chris at World Beyond Network, who not only set up the show, but gave us some tickets to give away to you fine folks who read this newsletter every week. More contests will be coming soon.
Lots of new stuff is also going on here at blowupradio.com as I am working on compiling a list of MP3 sites where you can dowload your favorite NJ bands songs. I hope to have the beginnings of that list on the site in the next couple of weeks (although the list will rapidly grow as there is far more MP3 music out there then I can complie in a few weeks). There are some other things in the planning stages that I will divulge when the time is right. Keep listening, and supporting local music.
